P.P.S. - Dolphin Watching!!!

Pancotto Primary School (P.P.S.) is developing its science and social studies curriculum and this summer one of their teachers, Mr. Gaspar Cordova took part in a one-week Marine Science workshop at Spanish Lookout Caye. Mrs. Gloria Vaccaro, the school’s Manager and Mrs. Anna Reyes, its Principal, were invited to a “Special Networking Day” out at the Caye that was hosted for all teachers who participated in the workshop.

They had a great time at this beautiful Caye and especially enjoyed the show put on by the dolphins. For those of us who may be wondering, the Hugh Parkey Foundation for Marine Awareness & Education, a non-profit organization, facilitated this workshop. Along with the Education Department they are seeking to provide marine awareness and education programs to primary and secondary school students in Belize at no cost. This program will equip the teacher with a Teacher’s Toolbox that will contain all the materials necessary to carry out classroom activities as well as the students with Marine Science Student Workbooks specific to the Belize Barrier Reef System. Students will be taken on field trips to Spanish Bay Conservation & Research Center to provide them with a firsthand experience to the marine environment. One of their goals is to make this a long term program that will eventually include all primary and secondary schools in Belize. I applaud the Management and staff of Pancotto Primary School for being a part of this program at its very inception. Keep on striving to development and advance the students of Pancotto Primary School. Our continued prayers are with you!!!

How awesome for the kids to be exposed to all of that. Learning about the world around them is sooooo important. That is part of the reason I allowed my kids to come on the Blitz so young, so that they can expand their knowledge base! Being the waterbaby that I am, I am envious of ya'll living so close.
